TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an emphasized on Tuesday (July 2) the city's initiatives to boost family planning, addressing Taiwan's persistent low birth rate and highlighting themed workshops and social events aimed at encouraging young people to start families. These events are set to open for registration on Tuesday.

At a press conference, Mayor Chiang remarked, "We are all working towards a common goal of increasing the birth rate. We have seen tangible results in Taipei City after implementing related policies."

Since his 2022 inauguration, Taipei has introduced the highest national birth incentive bonus in Taiwan, doubling the "baby bonus" for the first child from NT$20,000 to NT$40,000, with subsequent increases for additional children. The city also formed a Population Policy Committee to tackle issues like declining birth rates, aging populations, and rising living costs.

In efforts to further support family formation, Taipei hosts an annual joint wedding event at the Nangang Exhibition Center, accepting 80 couples with registration from July 2 to 11. Premier Cho Jung-tai also clarified recent remarks about enhancing promotional efforts for family planning policies, noting that a brief previous statement led to misunderstandings.
