TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A man surnamed Du (杜) is expected to be handed over to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office (北檢) on Tuesday (July 2) around 10 a.m. for offenses against public safety (公共危險罪), following his vehicular attack on the Presidential Office Building (總統府) a day earlier. The detailed reasons behind his actions remain unclear.
The 49-year-old drove his Mercedes-Benz into the Presidential Office Building around 4 p.m. on Monday (July 1) and was subsequently arrested by the police. Upon his detention, Du repeatedly yelled, "My wife is a communist spy."
His wife, accompanied by a lawyer, rushed to the police station in the evening to understand the situation. However, Du refused nighttime interrogation and did not cooperate with his lawyer.
Before crashing into the Presidential Office Building, Du drove his car, which was sprayed with phrases like "national cognitive warfare, info-security SOS invasion," to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT美國在台協會).
After the incident at the Presidential Office Building, the police moved his vehicle to the station for temporary custody.
