TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications reported a modest decrease in average nightly hotel rates for the first quarter, with prices dropping from NT$4,775 last year to NT$4,683 this year. Despite the dip in rates, total revenue for tourist hotels increased by NT$1.89 billion over the same period last year, reaching NT$16.648 billion. Hotel occupancy stood at 59.62% for the quarter.
The detailed breakdown of revenues includes NT$6.863 billion from room rentals and NT$7.804 billion from food and beverage sales, marking increases from the previous year's NT$6.361 billion and NT$6.756 billion, respectively. The bureau has launched an initiative encouraging accommodation providers to offer weekday stay discounts to stimulate further growth. Over 1,000 discount schemes are now available on the "Taiwan Stay" (台灣旅宿網) Website, and 60 additional promotions have been coordinated with local governments, some extending until May of the next year.
