TAIPEI (TVBS News) — LINE Fact Checker on Wednesday (July 26) introduced a new Speech to Text (STT) feature, allowing users to upload suspicious voice messages for verification to its official account (@linefactchecker).
The feature supports Mandarin and caters to the monthly average of 600 to 930 suspicious voice messages, marking LINE's inaugural STT application in the Taiwanese market. According to LINE, this enhancement will enable the Fact Checker to scrutinize text, links, text-based images, and now voice messages.
Launched in 2019 as part of its digital responsibility initiative in partnership with the Executive Yuan (行政院) and professional verification bodies, the LINE Fact Checker aims to bolster public resilience against misinformation. By May 2024, the service had amassed over 842,000 friends and processed reports from more than 771,000 users, making it Taiwan's largest message verification platform.
In its recent report, LINE Fact Checker disclosed that pandemic prevention and artificial intelligence (AI) topped the list of frequently falsified topics over the past five years. Other prevalent subjects included earthquakes, electricity prices, and health issues like cancer and virus prevention. This ranking is derived from the impact scores of verified posts, calculated based on user interactions such as likes, comments, and shares.
