TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Department of Health, Taipei City Government, reported that 12 out of 52 tested fresh produce items failed pesticide residue tests, announced on Tuesday (June 25).

The affected items include Thai basil, chives, white radish, passion fruit, papaya, Okinawan spinach, and red cherry. Businesses found selling these products, such as Neihu Mayfull Fine Foods (內湖美福食集) and Shin Yeh Mitsukoshi Xinyi Place A9 Restaurant (欣葉台菜信義新天地A9店), have been instructed to remove them from shelves and are subject to fines.

Source manufacturers found in violation of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation (食品安全衛生管理法) could face penalties ranging from NT$60,000 to NT$200 million, depending on the severity and recurrence of the violations.

Local health departments are tasked with investigating if the source is outside their jurisdiction. Additionally, businesses are reminded to maintain complete transaction records for all produce to facilitate source tracking and avoid heavy fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$3 million for non-compliance.
