TAIPEI (TVBS News) — NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen Huang (黃仁勳), announced on Monday (June 3) the company's plans to establish a design center in Taiwan and hire 1,000 engineers, underscoring the importance of Taiwan to NVIDIA.
The announcement was made during a lavish dinner at Ji Pin Restaurant (吉品海鮮餐廳) in Taipei, where the cost per table neared NT$20,000.
NVIDIA is in the process of identifying a suitable location for its large design center and new headquarters in Taiwan, with plans to complete this expansion within the next five years.
Huang expressed gratitude towards partners like TSMC (台積電), Foxconn (鴻海), Quanta (廣達), and ASUS (華碩) for their support.
He highlighted TSMC's critical role to NVIDIA and asked for suggestions on potential locations for the new building.
NVIDIA has already invested NT$24.3 billion in establishing its first AI research and development center in Taiwan, with an NT$6.7 billion subsidy from the Ministry of Economic Affairs in 2021.
Although there were rumors about a second R&D center possibly being located in the Kaohsiung Software Park, these have not been confirmed. Huang emphasized the need for optimistic, cooperative individuals who are open to change and deeply committed to their work.
As NVIDIA continues to deepen its investment in Taiwan, the tech giant's expansion is set to significantly contribute to the local economy and technological innovation. The search for the new design center's location is ongoing, with Huang eagerly awaiting suggestions for the perfect spot.
