TAIPEI (TVBS News) — On Wednesday (May 29), the newly appointed Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) presented his policy report to the Legislative Yuan, outlining a comprehensive foreign policy system aimed at fostering democracy, peace, and prosperity.
Cho emphasized a multifaceted approach, focusing on value-based, alliance, and economic diplomacy to continue Taiwan's pragmatic foreign policy and promote a diplomacy of trust and mutual benefit.
The Premier's policy directives are grounded in the principles of "four commitments" set forth by former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), aiming to maintain the status quo across the Taiwan Strait and ensure peace and stability.
He plans to implement President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) "Four Pillars of Peace" action plan to safeguard national sovereignty and protect Taiwan's overall interests.
This comprehensive strategy covers various sectors, including domestic affairs, ethnic and maritime issues; foreign relations, national defense, and cross-strait relations; economy and agriculture; finance and banking; education, culture, and technology; transportation and digital development; judiciary and legal systems; labor, health and welfare, and the environment.
Cho proposed the development of an innovative economy, expansion of social investment, promotion of green growth, and a transition to net-zero emissions by 2050, alongside increased healthcare investment.
On national defense, he plans to deepen military exchanges and cooperation with the United States and other allies to maintain regional peace and stability while also enhancing Taiwan's self-defense capabilities.
Cho explained the nation's commitment to reforming the conscription system, improving training intensity and depth, and building a modernized force capable of defense.
The Legislative Yuan is scheduled to invite Cho to attend a session for his policy report and questioning on Friday (May 31), marking a critical step in Taiwan's ongoing efforts to navigate its complex geopolitical landscape and internal challenges.
