TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a recent video released on YouTube on Wednesday (May 22), Taiwan People's Party (TPP) Chairman Ko Wen-je shared his views on the current political turmoil, emphasizing that there has been no contact between the TPP and President Lai Ching-te's camp since the election.

Ko highlighted the lack of communication and coordination on legislative matters between the TPP and the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), despite previous private discussions with former President Tsai Ing-wen.

The former Taipei mayor criticized the DPP for not discussing three bills, including the draft act for the construction of the Hualien-Taitung Expressway, on May 17, accusing them of conflating these issues with legislative power reforms in a "cognitive warfare" strategy.

He also expressed frustration over the DPP's continuous criticism, particularly from DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming, and reiterated the TPP's openness to collaborate with any party that benefits the nation and its people.

Moving forward, Ko announced that the TPP would proactively propose policies and bills, shifting from a reactive to a proactive stance in politics.

Reflecting on his relationship with President Lai, Ko recalled their shared beginnings at National Taiwan University's College of Medicine, despite being in different departments. He emphasized the core principle of conscience in the medical profession, which both he and Lai share.

Ko expressed a willingness to remind President Lai of their original aspirations if given the chance to speak with him, underscoring a potential for future dialogue based on mutual respect and shared values.

As political dynamics continue to evolve, Ko's call for a return to foundational principles and his strategic shift in the TPP's approach may signal new directions for Taiwan's political landscape.
