TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Legislative Yuan Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) addressed the resilience of Taiwan's democracy at the ANEX 2024, the Asia Nonwovens Exhibition and Conference, on Wednesday (May 22).
Amid recent parliamentary conflicts, Han emphasized the self-healing nature of Taiwan's democratic system and urged confidence in its processes.
During his speech, Han Kuo-yu revealed that foreign dignitaries had questioned the state of Taiwan's Legislative Yuan with puzzled looks. He reassured them and the public, stating, "Please have confidence in Taiwan's democracy."
He elaborated on the democratic process, acknowledging its low efficiency but highlighting its ability to evolve through continuous clashes and reconciliations. "After relentless verbal and non-verbal confrontations, the Legislative Yuan will gradually show results," Han said.
Han also celebrated the return of the ANEX conference to Taiwan after 30 years, reflecting on the nation's economic transformation from exporting bananas to becoming a high-tech industry powerhouse.
He praised the enduring brilliance of traditional industries and called for cooperation between overseas textile businesses and Taiwan's industries to create mutually beneficial outcomes.
In a meeting with a French parliamentary delegation in the afternoon, Han acknowledged their concerns about physical altercations in the Legislative Yuan. Still, he assured them that such conflicts ultimately lead to a more mature democracy.
Han Kuo-yu's statements at ANEX 2024 and his interactions with international representatives underscore Taiwan's commitment to democratic principles and economic innovation, signaling a positive outlook for the nation's future on both fronts.
