TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In response to a shocking stabbing incident on the Taichung Metro Green Line that rattled Taiwan, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) emphasized on Wednesday (May 22) the importance of passenger vigilance. He assured that any anomalies reported through the metro's emergency alert system would be promptly addressed.

Immediate Actions Taken

Following the attack by a 20-year-old nursing student surnamed Hong, which was thwarted by passengers, concerns were raised about the emergency response system. Several passengers reported pressing the emergency button to no avail.

In light of this, Mayor Chiang announced that the Taipei City Government has heightened security measures. These include increased security personnel, metro police presence, a responsible reporting system, and visibility of law enforcement to ensure public safety.

Mayor Chiang further stated that the city has always conducted regular safety training and awareness campaigns. He reassured the public that the intensity of these security measures has been maintained since the incident. This move aims to restore confidence among metro users and prevent future occurrences. As the community continues to recover, these enhanced measures are a crucial step in safeguarding the well-being of all passengers.
