TAIPEI (TVBS News) — In a landmark presentation to the Education and Culture Committee on Wednesday (May 22), Minister of Culture Lee Yuan (李遠) outlined a comprehensive cultural policy aimed at embedding President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) vision of "cultural sustainability, Taiwan to the world" into the fabric of Taiwanese life. Lee's strategy focuses on four main aspects: lifestyle, thought, creativity, and dissemination, promising a holistic approach to cultural development.

Cultural Preservation and Innovation

Lee emphasized the Ministry of Culture's commitment to collaboration across various sectors to showcase Taiwan's culture in everyday life, including efforts to preserve regional cultures and revitalize Taiwan's historical sites. He highlighted the importance of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage, advocating for legal reforms to support the inheritance, innovation, and regeneration of cultural assets.

Language Revitalization and Thoughtful Expression

The minister also detailed plans to revitalize national languages through initiatives in homes, communities, and schools, aiming for a more accessible and modern approach to language learning. In fostering a "culture of thought," Lee seeks to encourage diverse expressions, discussions, and dialogues, with ongoing projects to reconstruct Taiwan's art history and deepen cultural education through the stories of Taiwanese artists. Upgrades to museums and art galleries are also part of this effort.

Creativity and Global Outreach

Lee's vision extends to transforming Taiwan from a technology hub into a bastion of creative freedom. By improving legal frameworks and fostering a supportive environment for cultural and artistic workers, the ministry aims to enhance the competitiveness of Taiwan's cultural content industry. Furthermore, Lee plans to strengthen public media and international channels to amplify Taiwan's cultural influence globally, supporting diverse programming and expanding the reach of TaiwanPlus through international collaborations.

In his report, Lee Yuan articulated a future where Taiwan's culture is not only preserved but thrives through innovation and global engagement. His comprehensive approach underscores the government's commitment to elevating Taiwan's cultural stature on the world stage.
