TAIPEI (TVBS News) — KMT legislator Chang Chia-chun argued Friday (May 10) that late marriage is an irreversible trend and the government should provide subsidies for egg freezing to give patients more flexibility and autonomy, ensuring equal rights to childbirth.

Taiwan's declining birthrate is the country's biggest national security crisis. The Executive Yuan passed a "Countermeasure Plan for Low Birthrate" in 2018, but the crisis has only worsened.

Only Taipei, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu offer special subsidies for egg freezing. The central government presented a "Feasibility Report on Egg Freezing Subsidies" in May 2023, but a year has passed without further evaluation.

Each egg-freezing procedure costs NT$80,000 to NT$120,000, with an additional NT$70,000 to NT$100,000 for thawing.

Chang urged the Ministry of Health and Welfare to quickly complete and allocate a plan to subsidize patients' egg freezing to protect women's rights.
