KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai said Thursday (May 9) that the U.S. pop star Taylor Swift may perform in Kaohsiung in two years.
Chen said he believes Taiwan's most suitable venue for large-scale concerts is in Kaohsiung. The Kaohsiung National Stadium can accommodate approximately 55,000 people and has passed stress tests from multiple large-scale concerts.
He emphasized that the venue must conduct drills annually, including responses to emergencies. It must also ensure that safety facilities such as escape routes, fire protection, and evacuation equipment are fully equipped.
The mayor mentioned that hosting concerts is difficult because groups have different needs. Chen took the British band Coldplay for example, the band is very focused on green energy sustainability, so the venue must meet these conditions. Otherwise, even if no rent is charged, international groups will not visit.
