TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Eric Chu (朱立倫), the chairman of the Kuomintang (KMT), announced on Wednesday (May 9) at the "Silver Light" action alliance press conference that he would treat President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) with respect during his upcoming report at the Legislative Yuan.
Chu emphasized the KMT's commitment to respecting the constitutional process, regardless of the format Lai chooses for his report.
During a KMT central committee meeting, Chu highlighted the party's flexible stance towards the format of Lai's national report, whether it involves immediate questions and answers, a collective Q&A session, or a straightforward presentation.
He expressed confidence in Lai's wisdom in handling the Legislative Yuan's questioning method and urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to understand Lai's perspective to avoid unnecessary obstruction.
Chu also addressed inquiries about his attendance at Lai's inauguration ceremony on May 20, stating he has yet to receive an invitation. However, he assured that he would formally respond once an invitation is extended.
The KMT's approach to Lai's legislative report and potential participation in the inauguration ceremony reflects a broader strategy of engagement and respect for constitutional processes. As the political landscape in Taiwan continues to evolve, the KMT's actions suggest a commitment to constructive opposition and political civility.
