TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Ocean Affairs Council Minister Kuan Bi-ling invited students to serve the nation by joining the maritime patrol during a lecture at the Central Police University's Department of Maritime Police on Thursday (May 2).

Kuan pledged to provide the necessary resources for the department's teaching needs and promote cooperation and academic exchanges with maritime patrol officers from neighboring countries. She encouraged students to recognize their self-worth, cultivate a firm and incorruptible law enforcement ability, and serve the nation together.

The Department of Maritime Police, established 33 years ago, has trained nearly a thousand excellent Coast Guard Administration (CGA) officers. Due to their outstanding abilities, these officers are often headhunted by domestic and foreign units.

Kuan pointed out that maritime patrol personnel shoulder the "three safeties" of guarding maritime sovereignty day and night, cracking down on maritime crimes, and rescuing lives from maritime disasters. They also work on pollution prevention, marine waste management, marine life conservation, and the development of the marine industry.

Kuan noted that the work of maritime patrol in cracking down on drug smuggling and smuggling cases represents the protection of the people from drug harm and the rescue of lives from inhumane, hot, and narrow cabins. She urged students to recognize the value of their future work and make the maritime patrol a symbol of public trust.

Kuan believes that the sea has no boundaries and that maritime patrol work will encounter various national ships and people. With the alliance against power expansion in the Indo-Pacific region gradually taking shape, cooperation with neighboring countries at sea will become more closely knit. Therefore, cultivating a broad international perspective, language ability, and professional maritime patrol ability is very important.
