TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President-elect Lai Ching-te announced his sixth wave of cabinet and national security personnel appointments on Thursday (April 25).

Lai said his national security team has three characteristics: professionalism and experience, cooperation and understanding, and a commitment to the nation.

 

Foreign Minister Joseph Wu will return as Secretary-General of the National Security Council, and Presidential Office Secretary-General Lin Chia-lung will take over as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Wellington Koo, the current Secretary-General of the National Security Council, will become Minister of Defense.

In other appointments, former Pingtung County Magistrate Pan Men-an will become the Presidential Office Secretary-General. Deputy Premier Cheng Wen-tsan is slated to take over as Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation. Chiu Chui-cheng will head the Mainland Affairs Council. Yen De-fa to become the Veterans Affairs Council Minister. Tsai Ming-yen will remain as the Director-General of the National Security Bureau.

As of Thursday, Lai's cabinet has announced 34 appointments in six waves, including 26 men and eight women, with an average age of 62.5.
