HUALIEN (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued Earthquake Report No. 344 on Thursday (April 25), indicating a significant earthquake off the coast of Hualien County.
The quake, with a magnitude of 4.7 struck, occurred at 9:23 a.m., 17.4 kilometers south-southwest of Hualien County Hall, at a focal depth of 5.0 kilometers.
The quake was felt across various regions, with the largest intensity recorded in Hualien County at level 3. Nantou County and Taichung City experienced a maximum intensity of level 2. Meanwhile, Yilan County, Taitung County, Yunlin County, Changhua County, Chiayi County, Hsinchu County, Chiayi City, and Tainan City all reported a maximum intensity of level 1.
According to CWA data, aftershocks have often occurred since the massive earthquake that struck Hualien on April 3. 1,256 earthquakes, including the main one and aftershocks, have been registered as of 6:03 a.m. on Thursday. The CWA continues to monitor seismic activity and urges residents to stay alert for potential aftershocks.
