TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Heavy rainfall on Thursday (April 18) in northern Taiwan has slowed down traffic, according to Minister of Transportation and Communications Wang Kwo-tsai.
Wang stated that while all roads have drainage systems, the unexpected rainstorm has slowed the drainage process and is now affecting traffic.
He explained that the entire drainage system can temporarily stop working during intense downpours.
The minister promised that the appropriate authorities would consider whether the obstructions were temporary or needed additional action.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has since issued a heavy rain advisory for Keelung, Taipei City, New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, and Yilan County. The CWA stated that due to the influence of the front, there is a likelihood of short-term heavy rainfall in the morning.
This affects many travel schedules because it falls during public commute hours. There have been complaints of individuals being trapped in traffic and the metro being extremely busy.
