TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Current Minister of Environment, Shieu Fuh-sheng, announced on Wednesday (April 17) that he will not retain his position in the upcoming cabinet appointments of President-elect Lai Ching-te.
He explained that he has expressed his intentions to Lai, stating that he will return to teaching at National Chung Hsing University after May 20.
Shieu explained that he is currently on a temporary assignment and will retire when he turns 65 on Jan. 30, 2025. He expressed gratitude to President Tsai Ing-wen and Premier Chen Chien-jen for the opportunities they provided him to gain experience in the Ministry of Environment and the Executive Yuan.
Shieu also thanked citizens and environmental NGOs for their increased interaction with the Ministry of Environment during his tenure. He expressed hope that his successor will continue to uphold the environmental mission and promote initiatives such as the 2050 Net-Zero Emissions, resource recycling, and the ongoing environmental sustainability work initiated during the Environmental Protection Administration era.
The Ministry of Environment has established the National Environment Research Academy, which will serve as a think tank for the ministry and contribute to the country's forward-looking approach to environmental sustainability.
