U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida issued a joint statement after their summit on April 10 reaffirming the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The statement also acknowledged Taiwan's contribution to the development of Pacific island nations.
On April 11, Biden, Kishida, and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. held a trilateral summit. In a statement released after the meeting, they emphasized that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are crucial to global security and prosperity.
Lin further pointed out that the current expansion of authoritarianism poses a severe challenge to regional security and international order. The joint statements from the U.S.-Japan summit and the U.S.-Japan-Philippines trilateral summit underscore the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, reflecting a high degree of international consensus.
Lin stressed that Taiwan, as a responsible member of the international community, has the ability and willingness to cooperate with the global community. She pledged that Taiwan will continue to strengthen its self-defense capabilities, work with like-minded countries to uphold a rules-based international order, and ensure the freedom and openness of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
