TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Department of Health in Taipei reported Thursday (April 11) that over a hundred of people have fallen ill after dining at Korean Cuisine restaurant Truewow and Xiang La Spicy Hotpot's MRT Ximen Branch, both under the Wowprime Corp. An additional 23 people have sought medical attention at a special clinic for food safety.
The health department said in a press release that as of 10 a.m., the number of people who sought medical treatment after dining at the two restaurants had reached 115, an increase of 12 from the previous day's figures.
In addition, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an presented a special report to the city council on food poisoning cases, including one at Polam Kopitiam. Chiang said the central government had called on March 27 to inquire whether a full suspension of business at Polam Kopitiam had been ordered and discussed suspension standards with the health department.
Recent food safety issues in Taipei have once again brought the topic of food safety into the public eye. The investigation mechanisms of both the central and local governments are also under review.
