TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Wowprime Corp. announced Thursday (April 11) that it will fully refund customers and cover medical expenses related to a norovirus outbreak at its Truewow and Xiang La Spicy Hotpot branches at Taipei MRT Ximen. The company has taken responsibility for the food safety lapse, which affected multiple customers.
Wowprime Corp. confirmed that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) preliminarily identified a suspected norovirus infection event at the two restaurants between April 2 and April 6. The company closed the restaurants on the evening of April 6 and stated it will cover medical expenses incurred by customers before April 11.
The company issued an apology for the incident and introduced three care plans for affected customers: full meal refunds, reimbursement for medical expenses, and additional compensation for consumers. Wowprime Corp. stated these measures were implemented in response to a report from the Taipei City Health Department, which indicated that several customers experienced symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea after dining at the Truewow and Xiang La Spicy Hotpot branches between April 2 and April 5.
Wowprime Corp. emphasized that regardless of the source of infection, it feels guilty and responsible for harming its employees and customers. The company has no reason to shirk responsibility and has launched a care project, proactively contacting customers who dined between April 2 and April 6, and explaining the care plan.
Starting April 18, Wowprime Corp. will begin offering cash refunds to affected customers, with no set refund deadline. For overseas customers, the company has already contacted two groups of Hong Kong tourists to discuss refund methods. Wowprime Corp. added that it is actively reaching out to other international customers to provide similar assistance.
