TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) Chairman Eric Chu confirmed Wednesday (April 10) that former President Ma Ying-jeou will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing before 4 p.m. the same day.
Chu wished for the second Ma-Xi meeting to be successful but did not mention whether he would personally visit China. He said he believes Ma's visit to the mainland is an essential step in promoting peaceful exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
Chu emphasized that Kuomintang's cross-strait policy is "pro-American, friendly to Japan, and peaceful with the mainland," also known as "peace with China," hoping to create a win-win situation for both sides.
Chu also announced that KMT Vice Chairman Sean Lien will attend the Straits Forum, which is set to take place in June and July.
Regardless of whether it's the Straits Forum or the Straits Youth Forum, Chu said Lien will participate, expressing hope for practical exchanges between the two sides. He anticipates the Ma-Xi meeting will uphold the fundamental tone of the Singapore talks, laying a better foundation for future cross-strait exchanges.
