TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President and President-elect Lai Ching-te met with Laura Rosenberger, chair of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), at the Presidential Office on Monday (April 1). Lai extended an invitation to Rosenberger to attend his inauguration ceremony on May 20.

Rosenberger congratulated Lai on his election victory and expressed the U.S.'s intention to maintain a close partnership with Lai and his team, with hopes of deepening and expanding U.S.-Taiwan relations.

Rosenberger emphasized that peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait are closely related to the interests of both the U.S. and Taiwan. She expressed hope that Lai would continue to strive to maintain the status quo in the region and across the strait.

She noted that the economic ties between the U.S. and Taiwan are mutually beneficial, pointing out that the number of U.S. state trade offices in Taiwan has reached 21.

Rosenberger stressed the U.S.'s rock-solid, bipartisan commitment to Taiwan, including a long-standing promise to maintain Taiwan's ability to defend itself. She praised Taiwan's progress in defense-related reforms and expressed hope for continued strengthening.

Rosenberger believes that Taiwan's democratic voice plays a key role in global security and prosperity and should participate more meaningfully in international organizations worldwide. She expressed confidence to Lai that under his leadership, U.S.-Taiwan relations will become increasingly close.
