TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) plans to hire 6,000 employees in Taiwan in 2024, with annual salaries for master's degree engineers reaching up to NT$2 million and technicians earning between NT$700,000 and NT$800,000, excluding overtime pay.

The hiring spree comes after a challenging 2023 for the tech industry, which saw many companies implementing cost-saving measures such as not replacing staff and freezing hiring due to global economic conditions and geopolitical factors.

However, as inventory levels return to normal and demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) heats up, international institutions predict a double-digit annual increase in the global semiconductor industry's output.

Delta Electronics also plans to recruit about 1,700 people in Taiwan and nearly 8,000 globally, with the highest demand for talent in Thailand and India.

The vacancies cover fields such as AI applications, with starting salaries for new master's degree holders reaching NT$75,000 and doctoral degree holders earning NT$96,000.

Electronics contract manufacturers, including Foxconn, Quanta, Compal, and Wistron, are also jumping on the AI server bandwagon, launching recruitment plans estimated to require thousands of new hires.
