KEELUNG (TVBS News) — Keelung City's Youth Electric Scooter Project's new initiative launched on Friday (March 29), with district offices beginning to accept applications.
The city government has relaxed application requirements, including replacing old scooters and public service non-mandatory and expanding the age limit to 45, attracting many applicants.
The first 100 applicants in each district on March 29 received complimentary helmets. Some residents began lining up before 6 a.m., with hundreds in line by 8:30 a.m.
The Youth Electric Scooter Project is a key policy of Mayor George Hsieh. Last year, he planned to invest NT$380 million to distribute 12,000 electric scooters. However, due to only a few hundred applications received in the first six months, the city decided to adjust the application requirements and monthly fees according to the city council's resolution.
