TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang caucus whip Fu Kun-chi said Wednesday (March 27) that he has proposed an amendment to Article 49 of The Electricity Act, advocating for public scrutiny of electricity price fluctuations.
This comes as electricity prices are set to increase across the board in April. The Kuomintang legislative caucus has proposed a bill demanding an immediate halt to the price hike and a review of current energy policies.
Fu believes the increase in electricity prices will lead to a rise in commodity prices, affecting housing prices and placing a burden on renters. He criticized the current energy policy as flawed.
Fu argues that electricity prices should be overseen by a national congress representing the people, warning that a rise could lead to a more than 30% increase in commodity prices.
Fu urged the Democratic Progressive Party government to accept public oversight. He proposed an amendment to Article 49 of The Electricity Act, advocating that any rise or fall in electricity prices should be subject to public review and approval.
