TAIPEI (TVBS News) — China's Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) announced Wednesday (March 27) that it is further verifying the situation of a Taiwanese, surnamed Hu, who is currently still stranded in China.
Once confirmed, TAO spokesperson Chen Binhua said that appropriate action would be taken.
A recent incident of two Kinmen resident fishermen who lost contact while fishing at sea and were later found by Chinese maritime police saw one of the men return to Kinmen on March 23, while the other, currently serving in Taiwan's military, remained detained across the Strait.
Chinese authorities pointed out that Hu had fabricated his occupation and intentionally concealed information, necessitating further investigation. However, his family expressed their wish to visit him in China.
Chen emphasized that Hu would be dealt with appropriately and in accordance with the law. The wishes of his family will also be fully considered, he added.
Legislator Chen Yu-chen stated that Hu has been calling home daily to assure his family of his safety. She added, "There should be good news soon."
