TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed gratitude Tuesday (March 26) to friendly nations for their assistance in evacuating Taiwanese citizens from Haiti and to overseas Taiwanese residing in the Dominican Republic for providing care. \
The situation in Haiti continues to deteriorate due to rampant gang violence. MOFA said that after consulting with Taiwanese residents in Haiti, five individuals have been evacuated and have safely arrived in the Dominican Republic.
The evacuation was coordinated by Ambassador to Haiti Ku Wen-jiann. MOFA clarified that the Embassy of Taiwan in Haiti remains operational. There are 18 people, including staff members, embassy and technical team personnel, and Taiwanese businesspeople, still in Haiti.
MOFA will continue to monitor the situation in Haiti and take appropriate diplomatic actions and protective measures to maintain the safety of Taiwanese citizens and the friendship between Taiwan and Haiti.
