TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Chen Chien-jen reaffirmed on Tuesday (March 26) that the sovereignty of Taiping Island unquestionably belongs to the Republic of China (R.O.C.).
His comments come as the "Taiping Island Harbor Renovation Project" is set to hold its inauguration ceremony. However, President Tsai Ing-wen will not be attending the island event.
Chen noted that the waters around the island have been particularly turbulent recently. He pointed to unilateral actions in the past few days that have threatened regional peace and stability.
The premier emphasized that Taiwan will continue to work with the international community to maintain peace and stability in the region. He believed that all nations are responsible for ensuring the South China Sea remains a peaceful, free, and open maritime area, accessible to all.
