TAIPEI (TVBS News) — MediaTek is targeting the automotive market with the launch of the Dimensity Auto Cockpit SoC (system-on-chip) platform at Nvidia GTC, which is taking place in San Jose, California, from March 18 to 21. Available in four different models, the new platform enables AI-enhanced in-cabin experiences for next-generation intelligent vehicles spanning all market segments from premium to entry-level.
The new Dimensity Auto Cockpit platform comes with Nvidia DRIVE OS support and combines an advanced ARM v9-A system with Nvidia's GPU accelerated AI computing and RTX graphics technologies. This enables vehicles to run large language models directly on the system and facilitates a host of AI-driven features including chatbots, content delivery across multiple screens, driver alertness detection, and various safety and entertainment applications. By processing data locally on the device instead of on the cloud, the platform also ensure a safer and more responsive user experience by boosting performance, reducing latency, and enhancing security.
In addition to its AI capabilities, the Dimensity Auto Cockpit platform improves in-cabin gaming and entertainment through more realistic visual effects and more powerful streaming capabilities using the Nvidia RTX GPU. Support for high-speed wireless connectivity and memory technologies further boosts passenger convenience by enabling real-time video conferencing in the vehicle.
To enhance vehicle safety, the platform also features support for front-facing, in-cabin, and bird's-eye-view cameras that detect potential safety hazards on the road ahead and monitor driver attentiveness. Its integrated audio DSP runs the latest voice assistants to make it easier for the driver to access information and control their infotainment system without taking their hands off the steering wheel.
Jerry Yu, corporate senior vice president and general manager of MediaTek's CCM Business Group, highlighted the transformative impact of generative AI in the automotive sector, promising a new era of personalized and intuitive computing experiences. "The Dimensity Auto Cockpit portfolio" Yu stated, "will unleash a new wave of AI-powered entertainment in vehicles, and our unified hardware and software platform makes it easy for automakers to scale AI capabilities across their entire lineup."
Dimensity Auto Cockpit is part of the MediaTek Dimensity Auto family. This also includes Dimensity Auto Connect featuring high-speed telematics and Wi-Fi networking technologies, Dimensity Auto Drive intelligent assist and autonomous driving solutions, and Dimensity Auto Components always-connected vehicles.
