KINMEN (TVBS News) — Two fishermen from Kinmen, known by their surnames Wu and Hu, were reported missing after setting off for a sea venture near Bei Ding Island on Sunday (March 17) and have remained uncontacted till now. The vessel used for the trip by the fishermen is also yet to be located.

Initial investigations revealed that the duo embarked on a fishing trip on a bateau on Sunday and didn't return home. Sailing conditions turned poor, with dense fog reducing visibility to merely a hundred meters.

Their families notified the police when they could not contact the fishermen, according to reports.

Kinmen Coast Guard deployed high-power floodlights to scour the sea surface while its vessel horn was sounded simultaneously to guide the missing individuals. The quest to locate them carried on throughout the night, but to no avail. Authorities plan to resume the search operation on Monday once the fog has cleared.

This incident came on the heels of similar accidents involving Chinese fishermen. Last Thursday, a fisherman fell overboard a Chinese fishing boat, 'Minlian Yu 60911' (閩連漁60911). On the same day, another Chinese vessel, 'Minlong Yu 61222' (閩龍漁61222), capsized, leaving two of its six members surviving, two others dead, and the remaining two are still missing.
