NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Amid mounting concerns over school safety in Taiwan, the New Taipei City Government is ramping up its initiatives to prevent potential crises within educational institutions.

Collaborating closely with various departments and agencies, including the District Judicial Court, Social Welfare Department, Health Department, and law enforcement, the government is implementing comprehensive measures to enhance security collectively.

A pivotal aspect of these efforts involves allocating a significant NT$50 million budget towards upgrading security equipment. This funding will facilitate enhancements such as installing surveillance cameras and emergency buttons to create a safer environment for students and staff.

New Taipei Deputy Mayor Liu He-jan stressed the importance of integrating resources from the private sector and judicial institutions. "We hope to integrate resources from the private sector and judicial institutions," Liu said.

"The first step is to collaborate with the judiciary. Our investigators and juvenile Probation Officers can establish strong connections with schools. The second aspect is to leverage all private sector resources, establishing an intermediary counseling institution to assist teachers in handling cases. The third aspect involves enhancing campus security when students return to school."

Moreover, the government is focusing on addressing deviant behavior through collaboration between schools and investigation officers. Amendments to education regulations are also under consideration, reflecting the commitment to fostering a safe learning environment.

Chen Tien-hong, Director of the Student Affairs Division at Shulin High School, highlighted their proactive approach to enhancing student support mechanisms. "Our school is revising the Teacher Guidance and Counseling Act per laws and regulations," Chen Tien-hong said. "With this approach, we hope to provide more counseling mechanisms to support these students better."

In coordination with law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and social workers, the New Taipei City Government reaffirms its dedication to bolstering the community-based social safety net. These collaborative endeavors envision a safer environment for students and communities.

As the government continues to prioritize school safety, it emphasizes the significance of collective action in safeguarding students' well-being and nurturing a secure educational environment.
