TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Monday (Feb. 26) that its Deputy Minister, Tien Chung-kwang, will be visiting Tuvalu as the president's special envoy.

The trip will demonstrate support for Tuvalu's newly elected Prime Minister, Feleti Teo, and his new government.

While Teo has not yet commented on the diplomatic relations between Taiwan and his nation, the diplomatic alert has been withdrawn for the time being.

Amid the political transition, the Ambassador to Tuvalu Andrew Lin, has already expressed his congratulations to Teo and Governor-General Tofiga Falani on behalf of the Taiwanese government and people. He has also delivered a congratulatory message from Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen.

MOFA noted that Teo has repeatedly expressed a solid friendship between the nations and his support for diplomatic relations.

According to the MOFA, Tuvalu has consistently supported Taiwan's international participation and will continue to do so. The diplomatic relationship between Taiwan and Tuvalu, established 45 years ago, is based on shared democratic, free, human rights, and legal principles.

Both countries aim to promote peace, stability, prosperity, and development in the Indo-Pacific region, founded on their cooperative efforts.
