TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As the 7-day Lunar New Year holiday concludes, people in Taiwan are already looking forward to the next set of consecutive holidays in 2024. However, the news might disappoint some as there are only two more sets of consecutive holidays remaining.

The next consecutive holidays are scheduled for April 4-7, known as the Tomb Sweeping Holiday, and June 8 to 10 for the Dragon Boat Festival.

In 2024, there are only four consecutive holidays. The reduction is attributed to the need for make-up working days. In 2023, there were five make-up work days on Saturdays, which led to some complaints.

However, the decrease in consecutive holidays not only means fewer make-up work days but also suggests a dimmer outlook for domestic travel.

During the Lunar New Year holiday in 2024, domestic accommodation occupancy rates stood at only 43%, while the traffic influx at Taoyuan International Airport exceeded 1.16 million, doubling the previous year's figure.

As more people opt for international travel during holidays, domestic travel service providers may need to seize the opportunity presented by the remaining two consecutive holidays to maximize appeal and profits.
