TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Stanley Chen, former agent of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) Rakuten Monkeys' cheerleading team, was taken into custody on Thursday (Feb. 1) by the Taoyuan District Court on charges of private dealings for the Monkeys' cheerleaders.
The court told the media that after questioning, Chen admitted to crimes of breach of trust and misappropriation of business, with the evidence sufficient to substantiate serious suspicions. The amount involved is approximately NT$26 million.
The Rakuten Monkeys team first reported the case to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office and the Agency Against Corruption, under the Ministry of Justice, in 2023.
Searches were conducted a day earlier, with Chen and the team's former manager Pu Wei-ching taken back for questioning. Four cheerleaders, business people, and others were also summoned to appear and provide statements.
Upon restatement from the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office on Thursday, Pu was released on a NT$500,000 bail for his alleged breach of trust, while the prosecutor requested the District Court to place Chen in detention.
