TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei Game Show opened its doors Thursday (Jan. 25), showcasing more than 300 games in an event expected to draw more than 350,000 visitors over its four-day run.
Despite chilling temperatures, nearly a thousand gamers lined up ahead of the opening, with some even pitching tents two days in advance to secure their places.
However, the event was not without controversy. Some attendees grumbled about the presence of ticket scalpers and complained of system malfunctions that resulted in lengthy wait times for purchases.
One major attraction of the event was Nintendo's return to the exhibition. The gaming giant staged meet-and-greet sessions with beloved characters such as Mario and Pikachu. To further entice gamers, Nintendo had over a hundred machines set up for trial of over 25 games.
Unlike the short preparation period in 2023, exhibitors had enough time to design their booths, making the 2024 edition of the show the biggest in recent years.
