TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) emphasized on Monday (Jan. 22) that Taiwan is its primary base as it will consider all possibilities for potentially suitable semiconductor factory locations.
Stressing continued collaboration with the Southern Taiwan Science Park for potential spots, TSMC responded after media reports suggested the manufacturer planned to build a one-nanometer factory in the Science Park in Taibao City, Chiayi County.
Citing anonymous sources, the reports stated TSMC proposed to the Science Park bureau a need for a 100-hectare plot where 40 hectares would be dedicated to an advanced packaging factory; the remaining 60 hectares would serve as the site for the proposed one-nanometer factory.
During last Thursday's earning call, the TSMC showed active interest in augmenting advanced production capacities in Taiwan, disclosing its evaluation for expanding the two-nanometer production infrastructure and planning to establish three factories in Kaohsiung to meet the thriving demand for their two-nanometer process.
