TAIPEI (TVBS News) — After the presidential election defeat, New Taipei City mayor Hou Yu-Ih said on Tuesday (Jan. 16) that he will maintain vigilant oversight as an opposition party member to support Taiwan Strait security and reassure the U.S.
Hou cautioned the newly elected government to meticulously craft strategies to address global difficulties, emphasizing that Taiwan's unity is the only way to face future challenges.
In response to media reports stating that the Taiwan People's Party's (TPP) alleged fake polls led to the Kuomintang's (KMT) electoral defeat, Hou maintained that the election result was already decided and urged accepting voters' decision.
Sun Yat-sen School President Chang Ya-chung has appealed for Eric Chu to step down as KMT chairman to take responsibility for the election defeat.
In response, Hou stated that he is the commander of the election and should bear the responsibility of failure.
