TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Kuomintang (KMT) responded to proposals from the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) on Tuesday (Jan. 16) about future operations in the new legislature, promising to listen to and respect the opinions of the Legislative Yuan party groups.
Emphasizing its role as the majority in the parliament, the KMT pledged to provide vigorous oversight and carry forward the issues agreed upon in the cross-party meeting with the TPP on Oct. 30 last year.
Matters agreed upon during that meeting include the resumption of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, reinitiation of cross-strait dialogue, environmental sustainability, national security, public health, and strengthening the legislature's function under the existing constitutional system.
As put forth in the meeting, the KMT underlined that its vision for Taiwan's future development remains unchanged.
Furthermore, they plan to scrutinize issues such as the controversy over the purchase contracts of the Medigen COVID-19 vaccine by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government.
In the statement, the KMT welcomed those with similar political ideals to join in a collective effort to prevent the emergence of authoritarian one-party rule and ensure democracy aligns with the public's wishes.
