TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense (MND) expressed optimism about overall efforts conducive to stability and peace in the Taiwan Strait region, spokesperson Sun Li-fang said on Tuesday (Dec. 26).
Sun's remarks came after media questions about the ministry's stance on the resumption of military talks between the United States and China.
He said Taiwan's regional stability is not only a concern between the two sides of the strait but applies to the region and the world.
Sun added that Taiwan's regional stability is currently under global scrutiny, and all measures helpful for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait region are viewed positively by the defense ministry.
This comes after a video conference between U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Charles Brown Jr and his Chinese counterpart Liu Zhenli last Thursday.
The meeting, the first high-level military dialogue in one year and four months, focused on discussing global and regional security issues.
