TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Hsinchu City Government confirmed on Thursday (Dec. 21) that farmland owned by Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je in Hsinchu was used as a parking lot for tour buses.
The government has mandated improvements within 30 days.
Ko stated on Wednesday that he had already contacted other landlords and businesses for car relocation and hopes that construction workers will promptly remove the asphalt and restore the land to its original condition.
Following an inspection today, Hsinchu authorities informed the Central News Agency (CNA) that the farmland was confirmed to be partially used for non-agricultural purposes.
The authorities are demanding correction and restoration for agricultural use within 30 days, or Ko could face fines ranging between NT$60,000 to NT$300,000 under the Regional Plan Act.
The Hsinchu City Government is also investigating whether income tax has been paid on rent collected from the land, as rental income is subject to national tax and should be reported to the National Taxation Bureau (NTB).
