TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — After more than eight months of preparation, the National Comics Museum is set to launch its inaugural exhibit on Saturday (Dec. 23), offering comic enthusiasts a new destination for artistic exploration
Situated in the former staff quarters of the Taichung Prison, the establishment gained approval from the Executive Yuan this April.
Minister of Culture Shih Che visited the museum on Tuesday (Dec. 19) and previewed some of the highlight exhibitions, giving a sneak peek into the museum's offerings.
The museum's eastern site welcomes visitors starting Dec. 23, while the northern site, featuring a new main museum building, is slated to open its doors officially in 2029.
Comprising 15 Japanese-style buildings, the eastern base currently features eight main themed exhibitions and three focal areas.
One of the museum's planned spaces, named "Da Shu Jung Guang" ("Big Fig Tree Lights"), aims to craft unique nocturnal landscapes using environmental lighting, shadows, mist, and music.
Moreover, "Barkley The Cat," an area adorned with whimsically scattered kitten patterns, is one of the main attraction points.
The park has been thoughtfully structured to include three reading areas: "Lin-sen Road No. 33 Book Rental," a bathhouse area dubbed "Pao Man Hua" ("Soaking in Comics"), and a section for comic graffiti.
Additionally, visitors can savor "Jia Ramen" at Dormitory No. 12, which is designed for dining while enjoying Taiwanese comics.
As anticipation builds, comic lovers across Taiwan are marking their calendars for the grand opening of a museum devoted to celebrating the vibrant world of comics and animation.
