TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Switzerland retains its top position in the 2023 Human Freedom Index, co-published by the Cato Institute and the Fraser Institute, while Taiwan secures the leading spot for human freedom in Asia, ranking 12th globally.
The report highlights a global decline in human freedom post-COVID-19, affecting areas such as the rule of law, action, speech, assembly, association, and trade.
Taiwan excels in individual freedom, ranking 12th with a score of 8.98 out of 10, and 11th in economic freedom with a score of 7.79, resulting in an overall score of 8.56.
The Human Freedom Index assesses personal, civil, and economic freedoms worldwide based on comprehensive data from 2021, encompassing 165 jurisdictions.
