TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Greenpeace staged dramatic protests on Wednesday (Dec. 20) morning at the national campaign headquarters of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Kuomintang (KMT), and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidates, namely Lai Ching-te, Hou Yu-ih, and Ko Wen-je.

They installed large satirical set pieces symbolizing Taiwan's "lack of green electricity."

Before a scheduled press conference at Lai's headquarters, Greenpeace activists erected towering 3-meter-high and 2-meter-wide billboards in front of the campaign offices to highlight concerns about Taiwan's environmental and economic challenges due to insufficient green energy development.

Greenpeace called on all candidates to commit to increasing green energy targets for 2030. In response, Lai emphasized the importance of green energy in his policy platform. He referred to COP28's decision, which he advocated last weekend in Tainan, to triple renewable energy sources by 2030.

Lai also praised President Tsai Ing-wen's seven-year effort in completing the first phase of the energy transition. He also argued that Taiwan's green electricity supply now exceeds 10 percent, surpassing nuclear power generation and showcasing progress toward green energy conversion.
