TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Legislative Yuan passed an amendment to the House Tax Act on Tuesday (Dec. 19), commonly referred to as the "House Hoarding Tax 2.0," increasing the tax rate to a maximum of 4.8 percent.
The amendment specifies that the tax rate for non-owner-occupied housing will rise from 1.5-3.6 percent to 2-4.8 percent. These new rates will apply nationwide to all individual-owned properties, with gradual implementation expected by July 2025.
Local governments will adjust tax rates based on Ministry of Finance guidelines, considering the total number of residential properties owned nationally. After consensus among political parties, the version received approval in the Legislative Yuan session.
