TAITUNG (TVBS News) — The Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency's (FANCA) Taitung Branch announced the results of its examination for contingent forest rangers on Monday (Dec. 18), with Lin Pin-chen, a 25-year-old woman from the Beinan tribe, clinching the top spot.

Lin excelled in various test components, including motorcycle riding, weighted running, as well as written and oral exams.

She previously worked for the FANCA's Chiayi Branch and has now been selected for the position in Taitung.

Out of the 20 registered examinees for the position, 18 attended the exams, resulting in a 90% attendance rate. the Taitung Branch noted.

After two days of intense competition on Dec. 16 and 17, three candidates were appointed full-time rangers, and six were put on the waitlist, leading to a 16.67% overall acceptance rate.

Notably, all three successful candidates are Taiwanese indigenous people from the Beinan, Amis, and Bunun tribes, with a gender ratio of two men to one woman among them.

The starting salary for the newly appointed forest rangers is NT$31,130, which can reach up to NT$46,695 depending on year-end evaluations and work performance. They will also receive additional allowances for mountain patrol duties, the FANCA shared.
