TAITUNG (TVBS News) — The Taitung County Government has launched the inaugural Tiehua Lighting Festival (鐵花燈之祭) in December 2023 to celebrate Christmas with local residents and tourists. The festival is scheduled to run from Dec. 11 to Feb. 25, 2024.
Situated at the Tiehua Music Village (鐵花新聚落), a standout feature of this months-long event is an 8-meter-tall Christmas reindeer. This magnificent reindeer and other lantern decorations are illuminated daily from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m..
On Monday evening, the county government conducted a lighting ceremony to activate lantern decorations in five key areas: the tallest Christmas reindeer in Taiwan, the giant snowman, the vibrant "Dreamy Light Castle," the nearly 200-meter-long "Crystal Snow World" walkway lights, and Christmas-shaped gates.
During the ceremony, Wang Chih-hui, the deputy commissioner of the county, remarked, "With a packed schedule of activities, you can expect the entire area to be lively and festive from Christmas to the Lantern Festival."
Acknowledging the enormous appeal of the giant reindeer for photo opportunities, Wang also expressed his hope that this event would create warm, joyful, and memorable experiences for both visitors and local residents in Taitung.
