NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Police Department announced on Tuesday (Dec. 12) that approximately NT$147.19 million was intercepted from potential fraud in October and November 2023.

As of Tuesday, the total amount of prevented fraud in New Taipei has reached NT$700 million, an increase of NT$26.48 million compared to the same period in 2022.

At a public safety meeting, Chu Ti-chih, New Taipei City deputy mayor, urged local law enforcement to continue their crackdown on illegal activities, promote their law enforcement strategies, and create a safer living environment for citizens.

Additionally, traffic fatalities in New Taipei have significantly decreased in 2023, Chu emphasized.

From January to September, 188 people died in vehicle accidents, which is 46 fewer than the same period last year, marking a 20% reduction.

Notably, the number of elderly traffic fatalities has plummeted by 36% — the highest reduction nationwide — with 60 reported cases in 2023, down from 94 during the same period in 2022.
