NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The New Taipei City Police Department announced on Tuesday (Dec. 12) that approximately NT＄147.19 million was intercepted from potential fraud in October and November 2023.
As of Tuesday, the total amount of prevented fraud in New Taipei has reached NT＄700 million, an increase of NT＄26.48 million compared to the same period in 2022.
At a public safety meeting, Chu Ti-chih, New Taipei City deputy mayor, urged local law enforcement to continue their crackdown on illegal activities, promote their law enforcement strategies, and create a safer living environment for citizens.
Additionally, traffic fatalities in New Taipei have significantly decreased in 2023, Chu emphasized.
Notably, the number of elderly traffic fatalities has plummeted by 36% — the highest reduction nationwide — with 60 reported cases in 2023, down from 94 during the same period in 2022.
