TAIPEI (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen attended the semi-annual promotion ceremony for military officers at the Ministry of National Defense (MND) on Tuesday (Dec. 12), where she gave words of encouragement and acknowledged their contributions to national security and defense reforms.
During her speech at the ceremony, Tsai mentioned the significant milestones achieved in the indigenous warship-building program, including the launch of the "Hai Kun" (Narwhal) sub in September and the keel-laying ceremony for a prototype air-defense patrol ship in November, signaling the fruition of the national shipbuilding project.
The promotion event recognized the advancement of 26 officers, including the elevation of seven to the rank of lieutenant general and 19 to major general.
Tsai expressed gratitude to the promoted officers and their families for their dedication to the nation's safety and the ongoing efforts to reform national defense. She emphasized the actual combat capabilities demonstrated by the military in exercises and urged continuous enhancement in troop training and talent development.
